Ingredients for Jeera Rice:

Cooking Rice-

  • Long grain type rice - 1 cup
  • peas - 1 tbsp.
  • Ghee(Indian cream) - 1 tbsp.
  • A bay leaf.
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 inch of peace.
  • Green cardamom - 2 to 3.
  • Big cardamom - 1.
  • Clove - 1.
  • Chili (cut it by length) - 2 pieces.
  • Cashew(sauteed in a cream or oil) - 5 to 6 pieces.
  • Salt as per taste.
  • Water.

For tempering-

  • Ghee (Indian cream) - 1 tbsp.
  • Cumins - 2 tsp.

Method of Jeera Rice:

Cooking the rice-

  1. Take a cupful of long rice in a basket and wash it 2-3 times, then soak it in a bowl pouring half a cup of water for just 20 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a wok. Add tej patta, cinnamon, green cardamom, a large type of cardamom, and clove. Saute the spices for a while.
  3. Then add a cupful of rice, peas with one and a half cups of water, grated chilis, and salt, and  Boil on high flame till it overflows. Meanwhile, stir the rice slowly to avoid the split of the grain.
  4. Take out all the stuff in a bowl and put it aside for a while. 

Tempering-

  1. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a wok. Add 2 tsp cumin, and temper it till it starts cracking. 
  2. Soon add the rice from the bowl and cook on a medium flame for almost 5 to 6 minutes while keeping it stirring light-handedly.
  3. Spread the sauteed cashews on the rice, and serve hot with any soup.

Jeera rice (Rice sauteed with cumin) is ready now.

Note:- Take precaution that cumin should not be over sautee and turn black, or the delicacy of rice will be spoiled. It should be tested crunchy.
