   Hello friends, Today we are going to make a favorite crispy and savory item called Fafda, which is a favorite of the Gujarati people, especially the dwellers of Rajkot and Surat. A recipe for Fafda and Curry.



Ingredients for Fafda and Curry:

(For 2-3 persons)

To make a loaf-

  • 1 cup gram Chickpea flour (150 g).
  • 2 tablespoons Oil.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda or Eno.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • Water as needed.
  • Oil to fry.
  • A little pepper powder.
To make Curry-
  • 2 teaspoons Oil.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard.
  • Chopped green chilies.
  • Curry leaves.
  • A teaspoon of dried coriander.
  • A little asafoetida.
  • Salt to taste.
  • 2 - 3 teaspoons sugar.
  • Water as needed.


Method for Fafda and Curry:

  1. Add salt, baking soda, asafoetida, and make a loaf adding water little by little.
  2. Knead more after adding oil. The More you knead the flour, the more the Fafda will be tasty. Keep aside for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Now add one to two teaspoons of water as required to make this flour. Once the flour is bound, add some pepper powder and carom seeds and knead the flour well. Take some oil and knead the flour. The more you knead, the more fluffy you will become, so take special care to cover the flour and let it rest for five minutes
  4. To make curry, mix gram flour, lemon blossom, and water in a bowl. You can also mix this with a blender.
  5. Now to increase this, put oil in a pan to heat the oil. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds. When the mustard is hot, slow down the gas, add chopped chili, neem, and dried coriander. Add asafoetida and mix it. Stir, add water as needed
  6. Now add turmeric, salt, and sugar. Boil it on medium gas for 10 to 15 minutes. The curry should not be too thick and not too thin.
  7. Now take a small lump of the loaf and prepare Fafda by rubbing it with the help of a palm on the plank(See demonstration video at the end of the post).
  8. Fry the Fafda in hot oil on medium gas for 2-3 minutes. Don't fry too much the prevent hardening.
Gujarati famous Fafda is ready. Enjoy it with curry, fried chilies, and papaya salad along with the Jalebi.
