Recipe for Alu Chana Chat.

Chaat is popular street food like the pani puri. Here is a recipe for Aloo Chana Chaat with mung daal and chutneys to make it at home. This Homemade chaat is tastier than the chaat available on the street, and it is safe for kids' health and hygienic too.

Ingredients for the Alu Chana Chat:

- for dough.

  • Maida (All-purpose flour) 2 Cups.
  • Namak (Salt) 1 tsp.
  • Oil 2 & ½ tbs.
  • Pani (Water) lukewarm ½ Cup or as required.
  • Oil for frying.

- for sweet chutney.

  • Tamarind pulp - 1 Cup.
  • Sugar - ¾ Cup or to taste.
  • Dried ginger powder - 1 tsp.
  • Red chili powder - 1 tsp or to taste.
  • Fennel seeds powdered - 1 tsp.
  • Red chili is crushed - ½ tsp.
  • Salt - as per the taste.

- For Green Chutney.

  • Green chilies - 2 or 3.
  • Lemon juice - 1 tbs.
  • Salt - as per the taste.
  • Mint leaves - ½ Cup.
  • Fresh coriander - ½ Cup.
  • Water - 2 to 3 tbs or as required.

- for potato chickpea chaat with mung bean daal.

  • Chana (Chickpeas) boiled - 1 Cup.
  • Aloo (Potatoes) boiled & cubes - 2 medium size.
  • Hari moong daal (Green lentil gram) soaked & boiled - 1 Cup.
  • Onion chopped - 1 medium.
  • Tomato grated - 1 medium size.
  • Green chili chopped - 1-2 tbsp.
  • Salt - as per the taste.
  • Chaat masala - as per the taste.
  • Sev (thin chopped noodles).

Method of potato chickpea Chaat with Mung Daal:

 - For Dough.

  1. In a bowl, add Maida(all-purpose flour), salt, oil, and mix well.
  2. Gradually add water, mix well and knead until the dough is formed and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Take a small dough, make a ball, and roll out with the help of rolling pin and prick with a fork (make 8 like this).
  4. On an inverted small bowl (1 x 3.5 inch), place rolled dough and press the edges and cut with the help of the knife. The shape of the bowl from the dough will be ready.
  5. In wok, heat oil and fry bowl wrapped with the dough until turns into golden & crispy and remove the small bowl with the help of the spoon. the fried eatable bowl of the dough is ready. (makes 10-12 like this). 

- Method for Sweet chutney:

  1. In a frying pan, add tamarind pulp, sugar and mix well.
  2. Add dried ginger powder, red chili powder, fennel seeds, red chili crushed and salt, mix well and cook for 2 minutes and set aside.

Method for Green  Chutney:

  1. Grind the green chilies, lemon juice, salt, mint leaves, fresh coriander, and water and set aside. For Chaat: In a bowl of the dough, add chickpeas, potatoes, green lentil gram(all boiled), grated onion and tomato, green chilies, salt, chaat masala, and mix well.
  2. spread green chutney, sweet chutney, yogurt, red chili crushed, chaat masala, and Sev.


The chaat of aloo chana mung dal is ready.
